Privacy Policy
Last updated 23 September 2026
ProwlLog (“we”, “our”, or “us”), operated by Gramadhan, respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the ProwlLog app and this website process, why it is processed, where it is stored, and the choices available to you. It covers CATalog entries, sightings, feeding moments, iCloud sync, Shared Collections, the World CATalog, purchases, and this website.
1. Who we are
ProwlLog is an independent app made by Gramadhan. For processing that we determine, Gramadhan is the responsible party under this policy. Apple separately processes information for the App Store, iCloud, CloudKit, StoreKit, and other Apple services under Apple’s own privacy terms. For any privacy question or request concerning ProwlLog, contact us at g1lan9r4madhan@gmail.com.
2. Information ProwlLog processes
ProwlLog may process the following information when you use the corresponding features:
- CATalog content: cat names, photos, notes, profile details, collection information, breed and coat details, sticker selections, and other details you choose to add.
- Sighting information: the cat associated with a sighting, the date and time, and a precise or approximate location or map pin when you choose to add one.
- Feeding moments: the cat associated with a feeding entry, its date and time, and any other feeding details you choose to record.
- Camera, photos, and location: content and location accessed through iOS permissions only when needed for the feature you request.
- Published World CATalog content: if you choose to publish a cat, a limited copy of it — its cover and thumbnail photo, name, breed, coat, the date you first recorded the cat, the display name shown on your profile, and an approximate country and location rounded to about 0.1° (roughly 11 km) — is stored in a public database that other ProwlLog users can browse. We never publish your notes, address, precise coordinates, or feeding history for that cat.
- Content reports: if you report another user’s published cat, we receive the reported cat’s identifier and details of your report so we can review it.
- Purchase information: product, transaction, and entitlement status supplied by Apple so the app can determine whether Pro features are unlocked. We do not receive your full payment card or bank-account details.
- Analytics: product-usage events — such as which screens or features are used, and how often — processed through Mixpanel, our analytics provider, to understand and improve the app. These events are associated with a device or installation identifier so we can understand how the app is used over time, but we never send Mixpanel your cat names, photos, notes, location, or other CATalog content. See Section 7.
- Diagnostics: if you have chosen to share analytics or crash reports with developers through Apple, we may receive limited technical and diagnostic information to identify crashes and improve reliability.
ProwlLog does not require you to create a separate ProwlLog account. An Apple Account signed in to iCloud is required for iCloud-dependent features.
3. How we use information
Information is processed to provide the features you choose; save and organize your CATalog; display sightings on your map; maintain feeding histories; create stickers; sync supported data across your devices; share a collection with people you invite; publish and display a cat you choose to add to the World CATalog; operate reporting, hiding, and blocking tools; verify and restore purchases; understand feature usage through analytics; maintain security; diagnose faults; respond to support requests; and comply with applicable law.
4. On-device storage and iCloud sync
ProwlLog stores app data on your device. When iCloud sync is available and enabled, supported data is also stored in your private iCloud/CloudKit database and synchronized across devices signed in to your Apple Account. Supported synced data may include cats, photos and details, sightings and their map locations, and feeding moments. Syncing data to your private iCloud database does not by itself make it public or share it with another person.
Apple operates iCloud and CloudKit. Apple may process identifiers, device and network information, and the content stored through those services as described in Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not operate a separate server that receives or stores a copy of your CATalog content. iCloud availability, storage, security, and data recovery are controlled by Apple and your Apple Account settings.
5. Shared Collections
Shared Collections is an optional feature built on Apple’s iCloud/CloudKit sharing service. It lets you share a CATalog with people you choose and view collections that others share with you.
- When it applies: Sharing happens only when you deliberately create or accept a share or invitation. Ordinary private iCloud sync is separate from Shared Collections.
- What may be shared: A shared collection may include cat names and details, photos, sightings, feeding moments, and precise or approximate map locations associated with it.
- Who can access it: People you invite through the iCloud sharing flow can access the shared content. Apple processes information needed to provide the invitation and sharing service.
- Read-only access: Recipients have read-only access. They can view your shared collection but cannot edit, add to, or delete it.
- Your control: You can stop sharing to revoke future in-app access. A recipient may still retain information they previously copied or captured, such as a screenshot.
Share only with people you trust. Review a collection before sharing it because photos, notes, dates, feeding histories, and sighting locations may reveal sensitive information about you, another person, a home or business, or an animal’s routine.
6. World CATalog
World CATalog is an optional feature that lets you publish a cat from your private CATalog to a public catalog that any ProwlLog user can browse, and lets you browse cats other users have published. Publishing is separate from, and unrelated to, iCloud sync and Shared Collections.
- What is published: the cat’s cover and thumbnail photo, name, breed, coat, the date you first recorded the cat, the display name on your profile, and an approximate location — country and coordinates rounded to about 0.1° (roughly 11 km).
- What is never published: your notes, address, precise coordinates, and feeding history stay private, even for a published cat. Before a photo is published it is re-encoded to remove embedded metadata, including any GPS coordinates the original image carried.
- Limits: you can publish up to 4 cats regardless of subscription tier. Browsing other users’ published cats beyond a limited free allowance requires ProwlLog Pro. A country is required to publish; the app determines it from the cat’s sighting location.
- Removing a published cat: you can unpublish a cat at any time from Cat Detail, or from the public viewer if the private cat is no longer on your device. Removing a cat also removes it from other users’ browsing feed going forward, but we cannot remove a copy someone already saved.
- Copies other users can keep: while a cat is published, other ProwlLog users can save its photo to their own device or share it outside the app from the in-app viewer, as well as take a screenshot. A copy made that way can remain with them after you unpublish the cat.
- Reporting, hiding, and blocking: if you find another user’s published cat objectionable, you can report it (we store the report so we can review it), hide it, or block that user’s future published cats from appearing to you. Hiding and blocking take effect on your device and do not notify the other user.
- First use: the app asks you to accept the World CATalog rules the first time you browse or publish.
Publishing a cat makes the information above visible to any ProwlLog user, including people you do not know. Publish only cats and details you are comfortable making public.
7. Analytics
We use Mixpanel, a third-party analytics provider, to understand how features of the app are used — for example, how often a screen is opened or a flow is completed. These events are counts, categories, and durations only; we do not send Mixpanel your cat names, photos, notes, location, or other CATalog content. Mixpanel may process technical identifiers, such as a device or installation identifier, under its own privacy practices. Analytics data is used only to understand and improve ProwlLog and is not used for advertising.
8. Information we do not use for advertising
ProwlLog does not use advertising identifiers, serve third-party advertising, create advertising profiles, or track you across apps or websites. We do not sell your personal information. We also do not “share” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising as that term is defined by California privacy law. This does not refer to the user-directed Shared Collections or World CATalog features described above.
9. Device permissions
Depending on the feature you use, ProwlLog may request camera access to take a photo, photo-library access to save photos or stickers you choose, and location access while using the app to place a sighting on the map. The system permission prompt shows the access requested. You can grant, limit, or revoke permissions in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security, although doing so may prevent the related feature from working.
10. When information is disclosed
Information may be disclosed to Apple to provide the App Store, StoreKit, iCloud, CloudKit, device permission, diagnostics, and related platform services; to Mixpanel to provide product analytics as described in Section 7; to other ProwlLog users when you choose to publish a cat to the World CATalog, or to recipients you deliberately invite through Shared Collections; when you choose to export or share a sticker, photo, or other content using the iOS share sheet; or when required to comply with applicable law or protect rights and safety. We do not give Apple your CATalog through a separate developer-operated server; the app uses Apple’s platform services directly.
11. Purchases
The ProwlLog Pro yearly subscription and the Nine Lives one-time purchase are processed by Apple through StoreKit. The app receives transaction and entitlement information needed to unlock, manage, and restore access. Apple handles your payment method, billing data, and refunds under Apple’s terms and privacy policy.
12. Data security
On-device data benefits from the security features of your Apple device. Synced and shared data is protected through Apple’s iCloud and CloudKit security. We design ProwlLog to avoid operating a separate content server, but no storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure. Protect your device passcode and Apple Account, keep your software current, and share sensitive content only with people you trust.
13. Retention and deletion
On-device content remains until you delete it in the app, erase the app’s data, or uninstall the app. Content synchronized through iCloud may remain in iCloud and on your other connected devices even after you uninstall ProwlLog from one device. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a Pro subscription.
You can delete supported cats, photos, sightings, and feeding entries within the app. When iCloud sync is enabled, deletions may propagate across your connected devices. To remove iCloud data, use the in-app deletion controls and, where necessary, manage ProwlLog data in your iCloud settings. Stop sharing a collection to revoke recipients’ future access. Copies already saved by a recipient are outside our control. Apple may retain limited records as required for security, fraud prevention, transactions, or law.
If you published a cat to the World CATalog, unpublishing or deleting it removes it from other users’ browsing feed going forward; a report you filed is retained as needed to review and act on it. If a cat is deleted from your device before its published copy is removed, that copy may become orphaned — you, or in limited cases we, can still remove it from the public viewer.
14. Legal bases (EEA / UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, processing needed to provide features you request or manage a purchase is based on performance of our contract with you. Processing limited diagnostics, analytics, and protecting the app — including reviewing reports of objectionable World CATalog content — may be based on our legitimate interests in reliability, safety, and security, balanced against your rights. We rely on consent where applicable law requires it, including permission choices controlled through iOS. We process information to comply with legal obligations where necessary.
15. Your choices and privacy rights
You can access, correct, and delete much of your information directly in ProwlLog; control camera, photo, location, analytics, and iCloud settings through your device; stop sharing a collection; and unpublish a cat from, or report, hide, or block content in, the World CATalog — all in the app. Depending on your location, you may also have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability, withdraw consent, and complain to a data-protection authority. These rights may be subject to legal exceptions. For data controlled by Apple, use Apple’s privacy tools or contact Apple. For a request concerning ProwlLog, email us using the address below.
16. International processing
Apple may process iCloud, App Store, purchase, and diagnostic information in countries other than where you live, subject to Apple’s safeguards and privacy policy. Mixpanel may similarly process analytics information in countries other than where you live, subject to its own safeguards and privacy policy. Because ProwlLog does not operate its own CATalog-content server, we do not independently transfer your private CATalog to a developer-controlled server; published World CATalog content is stored in Apple’s public CloudKit database as described in Section 6.
17. Children’s privacy
ProwlLog is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them through a developer-operated server. The World CATalog is publicly viewable — do not publish a photo that identifies a child without a parent or guardian’s consent. If you believe a child has provided information to us, or that a child is identifiable in published World CATalog content, contact us so we can address it.
18. Website and hosting
This is a static website hosted through GitHub Pages. We do not place advertising cookies or analytics scripts on it. GitHub may process standard server-log information, such as your IP address, browser, device, requested page, and request time, to host and secure the site under GitHub’s privacy statement. If you email us, we use your email address and message to respond and retain the correspondence as reasonably needed for support and record-keeping.
19. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will indicate changes by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. If a change is material, we will provide additional notice where reasonably practicable or legally required.
